Top 10 Favorite Book Series by L. Bossi

Top 10 Favorite Book Series & Why (I notice these are all fantasy; that was not on purpose)

  1. Legend of Drizzt – original 9 books: Back when I was a kid, finding fantasy books written in first person that dealt with some serious racial/moral themes was unusual and the original Drizzt books really nailed it.
  2. Harry Potter: I won’t get into the whole Rowling controversy other than to say that I have a HUGE moral problem with her as a person. When it comes to her books though, I’m an HP fan through and through.  Rather ironically, Rowling created a world where the very foundation is built around inclusivity and acceptance and loving those around you.
  3. The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings: My father was reading these to me as bed time stories when I was super young. So I literally grew up on Tolkien’s stories and I’m sure they’re what instilled my love of fantasy at a very early age.  And, being a total Tolkien geek, of course I’ve been through everything from The Silmarillion to the Unfinished Tales.
  4. Dune: God, I love like every single book in the ever-expanding line of them. I won’t lie though, the Butlerian Jihad sequence will always be my favorite.  Those books were epic.
  5. Discworld: Pratchett will always be one of my favorite authors. There’s nothing quite like his special brand of satire and craziness.  His books also had a snarky intelligence to them that you don’t find in a lot of books, in any genre.  Moist von Lipwig will always be one of my favorite characters, right behind Sam Vimes.
  6. Redwall: This entire series holds a special place in my heart (even the not as great, later books). They were just so unique from anything else at the time.
  7. LJ Smith’s Forbidden Game trilogy: On some level I feel like I should be mildly embarrassed to admit that, but I’m totally not. I LOVED those books (every once in a while, I reread them).  My original physical copies are actually falling apart.  There was a weird innocence to them, mashed up in what was actually a pretty dark and disturbing story.
  8. Steph Swainston’s Castle Series: Speaking of things I LOVE. Her books are definitely not for everyone.  They’re very sexually graphic and violent.  They’re also over the top bizarre and have an incredibly unique story; her writing is both beautiful and intelligent.  Her books are the epitome of the New Weird fantasy genre and I’m absolutely dying for the next installment.
  9. Tad Williams Anything: I’ve loved all of his epic fantasies, from the many series to his stand-alones. I’m also a huge Bobby Dollar fan and I would love to have another one of those novels.  His books are kind of like epic fantasy in their purest form.
  10. The Chronicles of Amber: Another incredibly unique, first person fantasy that sort of defied the entire genre. I had a huge crush on Corwin.
  11. Honorable Mention – Gormenghast: It’s fantasy.  It’s not fantasy.  It’s some sort of super weird thing that falls somewhere outside of the genre but probably gets included in it because it’s just such a bizarre story, set in an equally weird medievalish setting.  I don’t really know what to say about it, other than it’s a favorite.  I also loved the very strange mini-series of it that BBC made.

Enpirion, a gifted soldier of his ancient, energy-wielding race, awakens, alone and friendless, in a new home after a terrible ordeal that has left him with both physical and mental scars. Placed back into active service, he finds himself struggling to overcome what he’s been through and the problems it has left him with. Even while desperately trying to cope with his own deep-seated issues, Piri is drawn into a far-reaching dilemma that, while on the surface seems to be merely a fanatical human sector targeting his race, has much further reaching consequences.

With a threat arising from a vastly different domain governed by a unique, chaotic and conflicting energy source, the situation begins to quickly spiral out of control and Piri finds himself having to confront issues with his culture and loyalties, as well as fighting an internal battle with a newly arising realization of who and what he is as he struggles to save everything that he knows from destruction.

The Enpirion Project: Nadir (Book 2)

The Print Version of this book contains over 200 illustrations and 3 full digital paintings.

Two years have passed. Two years since the Mark, since Merythalis changed the shape of the known world.

Life since the “Incident” has been anything but normal. Lasting changes to the physical world have led to a dramatic rise in tensions and turmoil in the system has put the relatively new Seri government on the brink of collapse. What began as an underground movement to revive the Old Empire has gained in strength, threatening a revolution and using both Merythalis and Piri as their rally cry for change.

With Neph on the front lines of the political upheaval, consumed with trying to stabilize the situation, and Piri struggling to handle an increasingly volatile and secluded life in which he has been branded a social pariah, along with serious lingering physical repercussions from Merythalis, their world has begun to fall apart. The relationship strained nearly to breaking and life collapsing around them, the two are thrown into an untenable situation, caught between political ambitions and supernatural forces, all focused on Piri and an ancient order that could destroy everything they know.
