I’m an indie artist, so I can only speak from the self-publishing side of things. But I think it all can be a challenge. After spending months or maybe even years writing your content, the hard work continues with promoting your work. That takes effort. And depending on how you plan to reach your audience, that means more money spent in order to make money.
Do you find it hard to share your work? Judging from the subject matter of most of my published work, you’d probably think not, but I usually am pretty nervous before a new book release. I always stop and wonder what the public might think or say. But in the end, I always go with my what spirit tells me.
Is your family supportive? Do your friends support you? I have the most supportive group around me. I don’t ever have to look far for beta readers because my inner circle is always ready. That’s one thing I do not take for granted.
How do you write – lap top, pen, paper, in bed, at a desk? It honestly depends on how I feel at the moment. Sometimes, I’m at a desk. Other times, I’m on the floor, pen in my hand and headphones blasting my favorite jams.
Every writer has their own idea of what a successful career in writing is, what does success in writing look like to you? Success to me is just knowing something I wrote touched someone or maybe even gave someone a sense of joy. Sure, huge numbers in sales and recognition would be nice. But I write because it’s something I love. Everything else is an added bonus.

Tell us about your new book? Why did you write it? Pain in My Heart is my most personal book to date. I literally poured my heart out in this and you can tell just from the first page. The poems cover a great deal of my struggles throughout the years; suicidal thoughts, depression, failed relationships, and finding the strength to love myself.
I went back and forth with myself on whether I should write or release it. It’s so personal that I didn’t want to be judged by the public, or even worse, by people I know. But I came to terms with the fact that this is my life, my story, and hopefully these poems resonate with someone out there who may be experiencing some of the same issues.
If you could have a dinner party and invite anyone dead or alive, who would you ask? Oprah! I admire that woman so much! I’d probably be too overwhelmed to speak though!
When you are not writing, how do you like to relax? I’m super chill. I unwind at home, in peace and quiet. Normally, I’m catching up on a good book or binge-watching a show on Netflix.
What do you hope people will take away from your writing? How will your words make them feel? My goal is that someone may feel a sense of hope after reading Pain in My Heart. Yes, parts of it are deep, and even dark. But it’s those troubles that led me to finding my own victory. I hope people see that and maybe even can relate to it.
